I went to A Little of What You Fancy, with Katie, for a leisurely Saturday afternoon glass of wine. It’s a new restaurant, set up in Kingsland Road by Elaine Chalmers and Lola Coone – it’s been full since it opened.
There was a nice warm atmosphere inside the restaurant, the music was fairly low and we managed to get the last two seats – at 3.30 in the afternoon! The red and white wines were lovely – the list is short as is the menu, which can only be a good thing. If you do a few things well, you are onto a winner.
Somehow we managed to get an, old fashioned, enamelled pan full of Pimientos de Padrón. These are delicious little green peppers which have been fried in olive oil until they blister, served with a sprinkle of sea salt. Apparently these peppers were originally brought to Spain by Franciscan monks, from Mexico in the 18th century. Eating them is like Russian roulette, since some are hot and some are neutral – I love them and will be going back to taste more things on the menu.
